EUROPTIRAILS

The need for mobility and flexibility across Europe of both goods and people is steadily increasing.

EUROPTIRAILS supports international train management by delivering real-time train data concerning international passenger and freight trains. So you can follow the complete train run of an international train via EUROPTIRAILS across European borders. Thanks to its reporting function, EUROPTIRAILS also serves as a source of information for international quality analysis as EPR (European Performance Regime) and corridor-oriented TPM (Train Performance Management). The relevant train data is processed directly from the Infrastructure Managers’ systems.
Thanks to the EUROPTIRAILS system, problems due to different national processes (for international trains) not fitting together at the border have been detected. EUROPTIRAILS-based information makes the detection of these problems possible.

The EUROPTIRAILS data exchange function is being used by some IMs as a pilot for TAF TSI implementation. The EUROPTIRAILS data exchange will be adapted to TAF TSI needs in 2010 and will be used for the pilot for the TAF TSI Common Components.

At the moment, ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) is based on simple time shifting. Therefore RNE has carried out a study to improve the quality for the ETA based on EUROPTIRAILS data. The results are promising and a function based on EUROPTIRAILS data has been developed, providing a better ETA. It is planned to pilot this function in EUROPTIRAILS in 2010.
The EUROPTIRAILS concept
  • supports traffic management on a high level
  • monitors international trains from origin to destination on the involved IMs network
  • information source for international quality analysis
What can EUROPTIRAILS provide ?
The four main functions provided by EUROPTIRAILS are:
  • EUROPTIRAILS Real - Time Information
  • EUROPTIRAILS Data Exchange Functions
  • EUROPTIRAILS Reporting Functions
  • EUROPTIRAILS EPR Functions (European Performance Regime)
